The Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 20) Act, 2013 , which entered into force on May 22, 2013, has repealed the Constitution of Zimbabwe 1979. Its sets out the new Constitution in the Schedule to the Act.
Pursuant to section 3(1)(a) to (j) of the Sixth Schedule to the Act, the said Schedule and a number of (sections of) chapters of the new Constitution come into force on the publication date, which is May 22, 2013 . Section 3(2) provides that the remainder of the Constitution comes into force when the President elected in the elections assumes office.
The Constitution does not contain specific provisions on intellectual property. However, Chapter 2, Section 33 provides protection for preservation of traditional knowledge, which reads: 'The State must take measures to preserve, protect and promote indigenous knowledge systems, including knowledge of the medicinal and other properties of animal and plant life possessed local communities and people'.
Furthermore, Chapter 2, Part 4, Section 71 defines the property rights in general and provides protection from deprivation of property.
