The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (H.R. 748), also known as the Cares Act was signed by the President on March 27, 2020 and became Public Law No. 116-136 on the same day.
Section 12004 under Title II, Division B of this Act permits the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office 'to toll, waive, adjust, or modify certain timing deadlines during a specified emergency period due to the COVID-19 outbreak'.
Among other provisions, Section 3301 under Part III entitled 'Innovation', Title III, Division A facilitates the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (“BARDA”) of the Department of Health and Human Services (“HHS”) to collaborate with the private sector on developing countermeasure, pandemic, and epidemic products.
