Title: Assessment and Advisory Mission to Provide Assistance for the Development of a National
Description: Reference is made to the attached 2019 Workplan of the Regional Bureau for Arab Countries and more particularly to the activity pertaining to the WIPO’s expert mission as a prelude for the establishment of an Intellectual Property Strategy in Saudi Arabia, upon request from the newly established Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP).

After a process of consultation with Mr. Sami Al-Sodais, Deputy Chief Executive for IP Policy and Enforcement at SAIP as well as with the proposed consultant, it is proposed that Professor Prabuddha Ganguli, IPRs Chair Professor at Tezpur University, India, undertake this mission from March 25 to 28, 2019. The selection of the Consultant was made based on his proven ability to deal with the required tasks outlined in the terms of reference of the mission and his wide experience as a leading expert on Intellectual Property Rights, being an advisor on IPR policy to many governments and a WIPO consultant for IPR capacity building and IP strategy development in many developing countries, including in the Arab region, such as Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon and Oman. He will be joined in this mission by Mr. M’hamed Sidi El Khir, Senior Counsellor and Desk Officer for Saudi Arabia at the Regional Bureau for Arab Countries, who will prepare for the mission, provide the needful background information; coordinate the mission proceedings with the Saudi side and ensure the required follow-up.
