Main Findings
Overall levels of regular file-sharing among UK music fans are down: while in December 2007 22% reported regularly (i.e. every month) file-sharing tracks, in January 2009 this figure was down to 17%. The biggest drop in regular file-sharing occurred among 14-18 year olds, with a decrease from 42% to just 26%. The percentage of music fans that have ever file-shared has increased to 31% (versus 28% in 2007).
Streaming music on computers is becoming more popular, with 65% of teens streaming music regularly (i.e. each month). Also, more fans are sharing burned CDs and bluetoothing tracks to each other than file-sharing tracks.
