The Launch Event celebrated the registration of the collective mark of the local association of producers (Asociación Regional de Apicultores del Chaco Chuquisaqueño (ARACH)) with the national IP Office (SENAPI) in Bolivia.  The members of the association, who produce honey in the Chaco Chuquisaqueño region, will be able to better position their products in the global market through the use of the collective mark.

The Launch Event featured four panel discussions, each followed by a question and answer session.  The panels comprised members of ARACH, representatives of government agencies, and other stakeholders.  The discussions revolved around the process of developing and registering the collective mark, the importance of this IP tool for product commercialization and market access, and the future outlook for the Miel del Chaco Chuquisaqueño collective mark.

The collective mark has been developed as part of the Development Agenda Project that WIPO has implemented in Bolivia in collaboration with SENAPI, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Rural Development and Land (Program “Empoderar”).  This project aimed to facilitate the use of this particular IP tool by local community enterprises in Bolivia and three other beneficiary countries, including Brazil, Tunisia and the Philippines.

Since the start of the project’s implementation in January 2021, WIPO and the national project team have been working with ARACH to fully grasp the potential benefits of a collective mark for their honey products.  The logo for the collective mark was also developed in the framework of the project.

As a direct impact, ARACH has expanded its membership from 25 to 42 organizations of honey producers, covering five municipalities within the Chaco Chuquisaqueño region.
