ASPI – Specialized Patent Information

The Access to Specialized Patent Information (ASPI) program is a public-private partnership administered by WIPO and made possible through cooperation with leading patent information providers.

Through the ASPI program, eligible patent offices and academic and research institutions in developing countries can receive free or low-cost access to sophisticated tools and services for retrieving and analyzing patent data.

Eligible institutions in Group 1 countries can participate in ASPI at no cost.

Eligible institutions in Group 2 countries receive access at a cost of 1000 Swiss francs for each account per calendar year (from January through December).

Eligible institutions in Group 3 countries receive access at a cost of 3000 Swiss francs for each account per calendar year.

Eligible institutions in Group 1 countries receive access to all database services at no cost.

Eligible institutions in Group 2 countries can request a free trial account for each patent database service for a period of up to 12 months, provided that they have not previously had access to the patent database service concerned.

In order to get started, you will need a computer connected to the Internet with a high-speed (56k baud rate or higher) connection. It is advisable to use an up-to-date version of your web browser in order to ensure full functionality of the selected database service(s).

Free access to patent information tools and services for institutions in Ukraine

The partnership will offer access to patent information tools and services available through the Access to Specialized Patent Information (ASPI) program to industrial property offices and local academic and research institutions in Ukraine at no cost until December 31, 2024. Eligible institutions may benefit from up to one account for each service available through ASPI.

The ASPI program facilitates access for eligible institutions to some of the most powerful patent information tools and services made available through cooperation with the following patent information providers:

Ambercite

Ambercite applies a citation-based algorithm to find and rank similar patents to one or more starting patents. In independent testing, it has been found, when used as a complementary search tool, to strengthen search quality by between 12 and 46%, and to outperform semantic-based search algorithms.

Derwent Innovation

Derwent Innovation is a proprietary patent research application that provides trusted patent data and tools to monitor technology trends and competitive landscapes, inform FTO opinions, prosecute patents, monetize and license assets and support litigation activities. It provides access to Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI), a curated patent database with editorially curated titles and abstracts, special subject matter classification coding and indexing, and proprietary patent invention-centric family building. Also includes the Derwent Patent Citation Index (DPCI) which indexes backwards and forwards patent and literature citations.

World Traditional Medicine Patent Database (WTMPD)

WTMPD contains patent information on natural medicines and their extracts with traditional Chinese medicines from more than 20 countries and regions, including China, the United States, Japan, Korea, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Russia since 1985, as well as international organizations such as the European Patent Office and the World Intellectual Property Organization. It is a Chinese-English bilingual database of natural medicine patents.

PatSeer

PatSeer is powered by Gridlogics, a provider of products and custom software solutions for patent research, data analysis, and project management.PatSeer includes a full-text patent collection including several unique in-house collections. LexisNexis TotalPatent One®

LexisNexis TotalPatent One® is a patent search platform allowing for comprehensive research. It searches issued patents, published patent applications, utility models and design patents globally. With more than 135 million documents from 107 authorities (including full-text from 67 authorities), it is one of the largest collection of searchable PDFs and English translation of 100+ million of documents, users can easily perform comprehensive FTO and novelty searches. Interface available in English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean (CJK).

Chemical Explorer

Chemical Explorer is Minesoft’s tool for simplifying searching chemical information from patent full text, images and R-group table compounds. The index is updated daily to cover new publications from over 100 patent-issuing authorities. The update speed ensures users have access to the latest information.

PatBase offers a robust platform from which to search, review, share and analyze business- critical patent information. Produced by IP specialists Minesoft in partnership with RWS Group, PatBase is a global patent database covering over 106 authorities. The database hosts 140+ million patent and related documents organized into patent families to reduce duplication and save time whilst searching.

PatBase Express simplifies patent searching for all-level users through an intuitive interface for searching global patents. PatBase Express is designed to optimize research productivity, equipping users with tools to search, manage, share and analyze patent and non-patent literature on one easy-to-navigate platform.
