PCT-SAFE Client Patch (September 26, 2008)

With effect from September 29, 2008, it is possible to file fully electronic PCT international applications with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (RO/CA).

In order to use the updates included in this patch, please install the following software:

1) the full installation of PCT-SAFE Client (version 3.51.029.204 - July 2008, see below), and

2) the patch

We strongly advise you to read the release notes for the full installation before installing the software. Once version 3.51.029.204 has been installed (and the computer has been restarted), please ensure that PCT-SAFE is not running and then run the patch by double-clicking on the pct-safe-3.51.029-pth2.exe file.

As the RO/CA accepts on-line filings through their website (and not directly via PCT-SAFE), the default settings will need to be modified as follows:

1) in the PCT-SAFE File Manager select Tools>Settings.

2) click on the 'PCT filing' button.

3) select the 'Full Electronic Filing' radio button and then the 'physical medium' button.

4) click OK to validate then close and restart PCT-SAFE.

This patch also contains the following PCT-SAFE updates:

- July 2008 request form available in Russian

- Latest PCT updates

- Fee updates (where relevant)

Download: pct-safe-3.51.029-bin.exe (approximately 67 MB self-extracting executable setup file)

Instructions:

1. Download the installation file pct-safe-3.51.029-bin.exe.
2. Export any form or address book data to a folder outside the c:\pct-safe folder as a backup.
3. Ensure that PCT-SAFE is not running.
4. Run the pct-safe-3.51.029-bin.exe from the local drive, using the same installation destination directory (c:\pct-safe) as the previous installation (if any).
5. The previous installation will be overwritten.
6. During the installation, when prompted, accept the update of the demo and production databases.
7. During the installation, when prompted, 'overwrite all' existing fee schedules.
8. At the end of the installation restart the computer.

Please note: Version 3.51.029.204 is a full installation for the PCT-SAFE Client. No previous version is required. This version can also be used to upgrade previous versions of the PCT-SAFE Client. To reduce possible problems with the installation process, it is strongly recommended not to rename the downloaded installation file. For the installation of the PCT-SAFE Client, local administrator rights are required. After installation no special access rights are required for using the software. At peak periods downloading may be slow due to server capacity constraints, therefore please try to download when less internet activities can be expected.

PCT-SAFE Client (Chinese Version) (May 1, 2007)

The PCT-SAFE client software 3.51.016.191 (dated 12 December 2006) enables the submission of International Applications in Chinese and in fully electronic mode with RO/CN and should only be used for these purposes.
